Born in April 1989 Collette June Ellis (MA) has grown up surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of North Wales. From an early age art has been important to her; as a child she always felt most content when expressing herself through drawing or modelling. This early interest has led her to pursue a career path in this field.
Her work is often inspired by fantasy and fiction; drawing inspiration from ancient mythologies from a variety of cultures. However, she has also drawn several portraits, Victorian style silhouettes and occasionally tries her hand at photography. A large proportion of her work is traditional working primarily in watercolour and ball-point pen; however, recently she has begun to produce more digital artwork. She has a particular interest in concept art, storyboarding for games, film and animation.
Previously Collette has worked in colaboration with "Triptych Games" as a concept artist for an online game, the graphic design company “Greenland Design” and as a concept artist for “Movix Media” - in which she produced a series of turnarounds, textures, backgrounds and storyboards for a virtual underwater experience program. In 2011 Collette had her artwork published in “Dragon World” an art tutorial book that features several artists from the popular art sharing website “Deviant Art”. Her most recent projects have involved involved working as an illustrator for author of the 'Year of the Dragon' fantasy series James Calbraith, as well as - best-selling Steampunk author Michael Coorlim.
In her spare time she takes part in martial arts classes; specialising in Karate, jeet kune do, Silat & Kali. She also enjoys Latin-American Dance, rock-climbing, walking and swimming.
Collette attended Glyndwr University in Wrexham, North Wales, where she studied a BA Honours Degree in illustration. In 2012 she completed her Masters in design communication, during which, she travelled to China after being awarded a £1000 grant by the Welsh Livery Guild; to investigate the origins of the Welsh dragon and the possibility that it was connected to the dragons of China.
Collette is now studying a part time PGC in Education with the intent of working as a full time tutor alongside perusing a career as a freelance illustrator.
